BIAS

advertisement

The advertisement ia about American kids exposed to as many as 50 hours a year of TV food advertising—much of it for sugary snacks which cause the national obesity problem.

1. American kids are watching a staggering number of TV ads for candy and junk food, according to a new report by the Kaiser Family Foundation

explaination:

American kids are actually not really watching a staggering number of tv ads for candy and junk food. There are others factor that can influence them to get attract to candy and junk food.

The word staggering is just the opinion from the writer. So, this is bias against the American kids.

2. They found that none of the food advertisements targeted to kids were for fruits or vegetables, and more than half the ads they saw were for candy, snacks or fast food.

How come none of the food advertisement targeted to kids were for fruits or vegetables? How about garden salad from KFC, apple pie and many more? there still have many advertisements that terget for fruits and vegetables.

The word none of the food is just the emotional opinion from the writer. So, it bias for the advertisements.

JURNAL 2.

‘Malays giving up too fast’

10 March, 2007

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi urged the Malays to be as competitive in business as they were in politics. The prime minister told the Economic Jihad Congress organised by the Confederation of Malay Economic Associations that the Malays lacked the desire to compete economically among themselves or with others, in contrast to politics, where they could go as far as commit slander.

"I feel ashamed when I hear such talk. I am not belittling my race. But I don’t think this should be the way. They (the businessmen) are giving up without making an effort."

The poor record, however, did not mean the Malays were incapable of prospering in business, as attested by the examples of Malay entrepreneurs succeeding in ventures overseas.

"They not only succeed once but the quality of their work is good enough for them to get new contracts in the host countries.

"Failure is a tragedy with a severe lesson. We should learn from our mistakes and not be discouraged to try again."

The congress aims to revive the spirit of entrepreneurship among the Malays. Abdullah said it was a religious duty for every Muslim to do well in the economy.

Touching on the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) buying a majority stake in Rashid Hussain Bhd, the prime minister said the pension fund and its board would not have made the acquisition without thorough consideration.

He said he was confident the EPF would appoint professionals to run the bank.

"I would be surprised if they did not do so. They will definitely get the best professionals to do the job," he said when asked on the wisdom of the takeover as the EPF did not have the expertise to manage a bank.

On Anti-Corruption Agency director-general Datuk Zulkipli Mat Noor’s term in office, which is due to end this month, Abdullah said he would make a decision when the time came.

SYNOPSIS

Malays lacked the desire to compete economically among themselves or with others. Not only that, the businessmen are giving up without making an effort. So, we have to realize that "Failure is a tragedy with a severe lesson. We should learn from our mistakes and not be discouraged to try again."

REFLECTION

Malay should stress on their personality and mentality. What I can see that most of the Malays easy to give up especially in business. Personality is the characteristic behavior pattern of an individual. It is influenced by genetic factors along with gender, family, cultural and environmental influences. Thinking, emotions, and behaviors link very closely and each can change the others. Our thoughts are important to us in many ways.
In business, we emphasized certain patterns of thinking in our happiness: acceptance, a focus on good works and virtues, and humor. Our negative and positive thoughts can also cause our expectations to come true, a self-fulfilling prophecy, by affecting how we see things and act. If we always want high profit without gain an effort, we are actually nothing. We probably will not feel like trying very hard and we may interpret our progress as unimpressive. This pessimism may lead our Malay society to give up, perhaps blaming the poor outcome on our lack of ability or other circumstances.
In contrast, if all the Malays have hope and confidently think their efforts will make a difference, they will keep trying for much longer. Positive thoughts such as, “Whatever happens to my business, I won’t put a stop. I will never give up.” These behaviors increase the Malay chances of success especially in entrepreneur. Most of the sentence come from Malay are like this:

Other people seem so much more confident (or successful, popular, etc.) than me.

I don't have any talent.

I have no discipline, no will power.

I am a complete failure.

I am worthless, no good.

I have no patience whatsoever.

I'll never be able to ...

I do not have any brains.

I am a born loser.

I am so weird.

Dwelling on concerns about status.

Dwelling on unattractiveness

Lack of Ability, Mistakes, Failure

I cannot do it. It will be awful.

I'm too nervous. It will never come off right.

See! I will never be any good at this.

I know I will mess it up.

I just know I will make a fool of myself.

I do not want to try. I could never do it.

I am not smart enough. I might as well not try.

That proves I am a total jerk.

What is the use? I give up.

I cannot do anything right.

We as the Malays must recognize that our thoughts greatly influence our emotions and our business problems. Negative thoughts are common in bad moods and depression, and positive thoughts go with feeling good and happy.
Changing habits of negative thinking in business helps a great deal in changing emotions and will help to increase our level in business to compete with others. Negative thinking is counterproductive, self-defeating thinking that makes us feel worse, see things in a worse light, and act in ways that often interfere with goals. The more we think negatively, the worse we feel. Positive thoughts help you feel better, see things in a better light, and act more sensibly and effectively. Optimistic, hopeful after change the Malays mentality, we can improve our chances of success in work and social life.

CONTRACEPTIVES SHOULD BE EASILY ACCESSIBLE

Malaysia is now the 5th fastest growing AIDS epidemic in the East Asia and Pacific region. According to the UNICEF, the rate of Malaysian infected by HIV is doubling every three years. The current statistic showed that averages of 17 people are tested positive for the virus each day. Most of these carriers are women and children. The increased number of child abandonment and child abuse has become a major concern to the society too. To continue, the rising number of abortion is indeed a nail biting scenario. Next, the over population of the country can cause a lot of destruction, especially to the environment. Finally, the rising number of sexual workers can be a threat for the spread of deadly contagious diseases. These are the core reason why we are proposing that contraceptive should be more accessible in Malaysia. Contraceptives should be more accessible because it offers many advantages be it social, politics and economy wise.

To strengthen our proposal, a survey involving 50 respondents was conducted. The survey took place in urban areas such as Kuala Lumpur, Seremban and Malacca as they are more exposed to the subject and are more open minded, acceptance wise and voicing out opinions. The respondents’ age ranges between 17 to 25 years old. The analysis of the survey showed that the respondents are aware of the existence of contraceptives. Condoms and birth control pills for example. Ironically, the statistic showed almost 85% of the people do not use precaution during their sexual intercourse. Only 10% of them are using contraceptives regularly. The other 5% uses contraceptives occasionally as in when they are having sex involving unfamiliar partners. The respondents said the reason being for not using any safety barrier is because they claim to hardly feel any sensation from the intercourse. Other than that, society’s stigma towards contraceptives and its users makes it harder. The community often gives bad remarks to the people purchasing condoms, for example, can be a mental stress for the users. The culture and mentality of the people can also lead to the low knowledge of safe sex. Next, the agony of process to get hold of some contraceptives and the complicated process of inserting contraceptives such as IUD is a turn down factor for the women. In addition, the cost for some contraceptive makes it almost impossible to get hold on.

Through out the survey, we also collected data on the respondents’ preference of contraceptives. 53% of the women would opt for IUD or may be Norplant as they last long, highly effective and dependable. 27% prefer birth control pill; 10% will use natural method of avoiding intercourse during the fertile phase of the woman's cycle; 5% favour the condom; the remaining 5% rather perform the coitus interruptus or the withdrawal method. The men on the on the other hand prefer the IUD and Norplant because it cater the excitement of the intercourse and at the same time prevent from unwanted pregnancy. The alternative to the IUD is the condom because of the availability.

By making the contraceptive easily accessible, we are indirectly promoting safe sex. With such implementation, we are actually taking a huge step to curb the spread the spread of HIV/AIDS. In fact, it is medically proven that IUD and condom is the only two barriers against HIV/AIDS and STDs. Once the contraceptives are more accessible, it gives the people whom are suffering from the disease to enjoy their sex life normally. Furthermore, with the access, women will have the “veto” power over their health and body. They can finally fulfill their sexual desire with an ease mind. They need not to worry about catching diseases and most importantly, getting pregnant. Unwanted pregnancies can cause a lot of problem to the women’s health especially after the abortion procedure (D&C). The procedure can cause infection, bleeding, impotent and death other than depression. Contraceptive is the most appropriate method for family planning. With the demanding and hectic lifestyle and the high living cost, contraceptive is the alternative to solve the family financial status.

To continue, the broader access for contraceptives can boost the national economy. When there is greater access, the demand will rise. Therefore, the production level will be high and more labours will be needed to fulfil the demand. This situation will create a lot of vacancies. This seems to be a great solution for the unemployment. The text collected from the industries can help in the national development too. With contraceptives, we can control the population. Hence, we can minimise forest clearance for development and for dumpsites. As a result, there will be less environmental problem and pollution. Not only that, this will help the government to save billions of ringgit to compose garbage and for environment conservation. Once the contraceptives are widely sold, the prices will not be as expensive as before. What we meant by more accessible is they are widely sold, even in hotels and there will be absolutely no minimum age to get hold of contraceptives. There will also be a special service to give women free consultation about contraceptives. In Government Hospitals, the process of getting the implanted contraceptives will be faster regardless of their marital status and conducted with no discrimination what so ever.

Moving along, by making contraceptives needily available throughout the nation, it will give Malaysia a good impression in making the effort to control the spreading of HIV/ AIDS: people from all around the world, tourist and foreigner will be confidence with the high health regulation standard as the chances of getting infected is reduced. With majority of the people are healthy and happy, the productivity of our country will increase. Therefore, the country’s economy is stable and strong. The growth of economy will attract more investors to invest in Malaysia. Hence, they will be ties among many countries. Malaysia will be recognizing in the world to be a hub for profitable investment.

However, just by giving more access to contraceptives alone will not be sufficient. The government and the society should join forces and try to take hold of the current situation. More awareness campaign should be conduct. Advertisement stressing on the effect of HIV/ AIDS, STDs and abortion should be aired especially during the primetime. Conference and talks should be conducted more so that the public know the advantages of using the contraceptives, how to use them and the suitability of the contraceptive with their age, health and frequency of sex activity with such creative and innovative approach, the public will be well equip with all the essential knowledge on contraceptives. Beside that, the society will have to put away their orthodox thinking bout contraceptives because contraceptives is the proven to be save and reliable. The stigma about contraceptives and its’ users should be forfeit or abolish. We should not discriminate the users just because of their doing might be morally wrong. We should encourage people to come out and seek advice for contraceptives rather than doing unprotected sex. Sex education also should be taught in all schools so that teenagers are aware of the circumstances of doing sex.

In conclusion, easier access to contraceptives is the initial step to fight against HIV/ AIDS and STDs. We cannot stop people from having intercourse. But, we can at least be sure the safety of the sex. By making the contraceptives more accessible, we do not mean by promoting free sex, instead, we are encouraging safe sex where the risk of being infected is minimum. The avaibility of the contraceptives will make sure that women have rights over their body. It also will help to solve the world health issue. Furthermore, the proposal will indirectly boost the nations’ economy and politic stability. With all the facts and argument presented, we hope to see in the future, contraceptives will be sold everywhere even in vending machine and are use properly by the consumer. Lastly, we want to make sure by taking this measure, the HIV/ AIDS rates will decrease in the nest few years.

QUICK TIPS IN MEMORIZING AL-QURAN

Below are some quick tips that will help you in memorizing the Qur’an:
You absolutely must have a teacher. Do NOT memorize on your own. You must have a teacher who you respect and whom you fear. Don’t ask ‘how’ to memorize the Qur’an. Ask where you can find the best teacher. The teacher will then guide you on the ‘how’.

Distractions. In memorizing the Qur’an, you must free your mind and environment of distractions. Imagine trying to memorize at a football game? Tough, huh? How about a theme park, could you sit down and control yourself to memorize? Probably not. Getting into a Qur’an Hifdh program with a teacher and discipline will assist you in creating the perfect atmosphere for memorization.

Memorize through Audio. A lot of people think they are memorizing the ‘look’ of the Mushaf, but actually you are memorizing the ‘sound’ of Ayat. When I review, I record my recitation on CD and listen to it again and again. The students that read the loudest in class are all the strongest students. Why? Because they can hear themselves the most?

When I was in Qur’an school, the boy beside me read so loud. I asked the teacher to ask him to read more quietly. He said a most powerful statement that became my motto: “No, you read louder!” I did and it benefited me unbelievably.

Location of the Mushaf. Your eyes follow a specific direction depending on what you are thinking or doing. If you are lying, your eyes go left. If you are remembering something visual, like where you left your keys, your eyes will look upwards.

When you memorize, the direction of memorization is right and left, not downwards. The mistake I see people make is that they put their mushaf low on the ground and then try to memorize. In order to fully harness the power of your mind, you must keep the mushaf at eye level, and not dip your head..

Eat brain food. We’ve all heard the advice of uncles that you have to eat Badams (almonds) to improve memory. Well, I’m here to tell you that the uncles were right! The food you eat, the drinks you drink, directly affect your ability to excel in memorization of the Qur’an.
Do not eat fatty, unhealthy food. Do not drink soda. Eat a nutritious light breakfast, a nutritious light lunch, with almonds for snacks during the day. Subhan Allah, you will find you accomplish much more in your day.

Make everyday a victory. You can move a mountain rock by rock. Enjoy every page you memorize, every Ayah.

I am often asked about my secret to memorizing the Qur’an. They are expecting me to teach them a special ‘south-beach-hifdh-diet’ or something. (I call it tip shopping, they are expecting a specific tip). I say again and again, there is no doubt that there are three ingredients. If you have these three ingredients, you will accomplish what you set out for:
Dua, supplication (you must always reflect your desire to Allah).
Sabr, patience (it will be a testing path, fill your bags with Sabr powerbars).
Taqwa, protecting yourself from sin.

If you do not remember anything from this article except these three ingredients (DST – Dua, Sabr, Taqwa - DST) then, bi idhnillah, it will suffice.

`Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet (sal Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said, "The one who was devoted to the Qur'an will be told on the Day of Resurrection: `Recite and ascend (in ranks) as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be at the last Ayah you recite.''' [Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

MY OPINION

NATIONAL PHILOSOPHY EDUCATION

• The essence of the NPE is TO DEVELOP THE POTENTIAL OF INDIVIDUALS IN A HOLLISTIC AND INTERGRATED MANNER.
• To produce citizens who are intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically balanced and harmonious based on a firm belief in and devotion to God
• The NPE is regarded as a statement of vision for the Ministry Of Education (MOE) in the pursuit of educational excellence.

Most of Malaysian educators and students did not understand the need of National Philosophy of education. That is why most of us lack of soft skills, easy to give up when facing challenges, lazy and lots more. For me, when I heard about philosophy, what always comes to my mind is belief. In my life, I really stress on my belief or philosophy. I want to be successful in this world and become the best slave to Allah and I put full of commitment on that. I believe on myself. If I fail, I will cry and feel sad but I will never give up and put a stop because I know there is no perfect person in this world but there got lot of people who improve in their life.

See, how important philosophy in our life. That’s why Malaysia has its own philosophy in education. It just seems like the root of our nation to hold. It’s also our belief and target that we have to reach. We as Malaysian nation have to understand deeply the meaning of our national philosophy. What is our believing country want from us? It’s not a policy which hard to remember. It is also not an act. Plus, it is not even give us negative impact if we follow.

The problems occur our students and teachers in Malaysia are they don’t have a strong belief on the national philosophy of education. They know what national philosophy is but they don’t understand. That’s why there were lots of social illness happened among our society. Trust me! You just have to go and ask them what Malaysia philosophy in education is. You will see just one or two among them will answer correctly while the others are not serious on that and not sure with their own answer. Moreover, most of them don’t even have a belief in themselves.

If you realize, the national philosophy is always being the first page in all educational book. You also can go to any library in your place and find the specific book in title “national philosophy of education”; you will see that there are only two or three books there. Not only that, you can also search on internet Malaysia education philosophy… still, you just can find the philosophy but without explanation and elaboration. How we want to know the purpose? I am sure you’re still not clear with my question. Belief is not something vague and hard to understand. Read the philosophy and it’s clear enough for us to know the deeply meaning of our national philosophy. Belief is not math, physic or even science.
Actually, national philosophy of education give us lots of positive impact especially in developing our education structure, program, exams, schools and much more. We can feel that. From informal school like pondok in previous history… now, we study in a very comfortable place and learn formal subject. Easy to manage and understand what we learn because text books are provided to all students. In addition, the quality of our education system increases and develops everyday.

As a conclusion, national philosophy is our belief and we have to hold it tightly because from that we know how to plan our future well.

JODOH.HUA HUA HUA

Ya Allah, kalau dia memangjodohku, jodohkanlah......

Tapi kalau bukan jodohku,

jodohkanlah jugak.....

Jika dia tidak berjodoh dgnku,

maka jadikanlah kami jodoh....

Kalau dia bukan jodohku,

jangan sampai dia dapat jodoh yg lain,

selain ku.....

Kalau dia tidak bisa di jodohkan dgn ku,

jangan sampai dia dpt jodoh yg lain,

biarkan dia tidak berjodoh sama spt

diriku.....

Dan saat dia telah tidak memiliki jodoh,

jodohkanlah kami kembali.....

Kalau dia berjodoh dgn org lain,

putuskanlah!

Jodohkanlah dgn ku.....

Jika dia tetap menjadi jodoh org lain,

biar org itu ketemu jodoh dgn yg

lain dulu dan kemudian

jodohkan kembali dia dgn ku....."

UKM sex survey: A few lessons to be learnt

UKM sex survey: A few lessons to be learnt

FACTUAL
  1. The sentence "THE storm that had broken over an early release of the draft report of a survey commissioned by the Institute Perkembangan Minda (InMind), and carried out by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Dr Khaidzir Ismail, shows no sign of abating". (We can check the statement to the source given.)
  2. The most "shocking and controversial" result that reportedly came out of the High-Risk Female Youth Profile study was that only one out of 887 girls surveyed admitted to being a virgin. (there got statistic from the High-Risk Female Youth Profile Study)
  3. The Menteri Besar of Selangor, the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, and others have waded in. (the staement can be proved by Menteri Besar of Selangor, the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development.)
  4. The All Women’s Action Society (Awam) is much dismayed by the overwhelming focus on girls and girl's sexuality. ( It was the purpose for All Women's Action Society (AWAM) )
OPINION

  1. Morality is not just about sex and sexuality. In the larger sense, morality is also about ethics, good governance, transparency and accountability. (the sentence is just beliefs not based on absolute certainty or positive knowledge but on what seems to be true)
  2. So we are gravely concerned by reports that the state authorities ordered officers to contact the participants of the survey to "verify" whether they have had sex.( the sentence has no specific evident)
  3. If the concern is teenage premarital sex, then both boys and girls have to be studied before any awareness programmes may be designed. ('if' shows that the writer did not sure... so it just the opinion of the writer)
  4. Was there a similar research focusing on boys in the first place, conducted simultaneously with the research on girls? If there is a need for a "special training module to promote high moral values" among girls, surely this will apply equally to boys? With regard to the size and make-up of the sampling: how were the respondents selected? (Questions are not the fact...)

reflection on chart

What i can see from "the motor vehicle deaths by gender, 1975 - 2005" is, more males died on the road rather than female. The reasons for that on that time are, there were more male go to work driving, cycling or even biking than female. Not only that, what i can see from my perspective, there were lots of males on that time, do not have a driving test. Moreover, most of the road during 1975 - 1990 did not have traffic light. So, its really hard for the road users to predict which car should go first. Plus, the road condition also was very bad and different from today. not only that, the condition of the cars during that time also not stabil on the road and fragile. However, most of female on that particular time just stay at home and became a housewives. minority of them had their own transportation like car, motorcycle or even bicycle. Most of them died when their husband got their payment because they went shopping. it sounds funny but that's the reality happened on that time. Not only that, most female lack of focus when drive, bike or even cycle than man. Moreover, majority of female think too many things than male in whatever they do. For conclusion, more male had died on road accidents than female.
What I can see from "age differences", most of passenger under 16 years old died in the road accidents. That means most of them are teenagers. Plus, they were more male than female. The reasons are most of them did not have driving test. Not only that, most of them did the illegal races like what had been done by the rempit. There were also due to the driver or rider error, or negligence of safety norms and vehicles fitness. Most of teenagers love to speed on the road like formula one just for their satisfaction. However, the driver or rider which 20 - 49 years old involved on road accidents during lunch our and on their way home after finished their work. I read lot of news on paper that stated, most of workers which 20 - 49 years old blamed on bad roads or other elements like weather. In other information, most of them sms or talk their wife or someone else through mobile phone when driving or riding. While from 49 years old and above, they are lack of concentration when driving and riding because most of them not healthy and sick. In many cases occurred when the old man crashed a car because of heart attack, headache, long sighted and short sighted.
What I can see from "alcohol involvement", during 1982 was the highest rate of proportion of fatally injured passenger vehicle drivers with blood alcohol concentrations (BACs). That was because of on that time there were lots of the drivers or riders lack of safety precaution when they drove their car. What i can see, it was Cristal clear showed to us how driver or rider during 80's era lack of technology and knowledge about health and lifestyle. So, alcohol on that time just the normal drink for them. So, when there were so many accidents happened to people which involve with alcohol was something not impossible based on their culture and lifestyle on that time. After that, what we can see the number of driver or rider which involved with alcohol decrease because government had stricter the law. Plus, there were lots of campaign to decrease the number of driver or rider who involve with alcohol.
