  1. I was as thin as a rail growing up in Oklahoma City, that all began changing in my late 30s. (Similes) the writer try to tell that he has no appetite. so, she compares himself which is thin to the rail growing up.
  2. I'd try something like the Atkins diet, and the weight would come off. (simile)The reader is comparing something to Atkins diet.

The first example is correctly identified as a simile. Atkins diet is actually the name of a diet formulaterd by Dr. Atkins, thus it is not a allusion. The last example is not a metaphor.
